What is available at the Nintendo Store in Shibuya?
Nintendo opened its first official stores in 2019 to promote series crossover goods from their most popular properties: Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon, Animal Crossing and more. Within you will find home goods, peripherals, plush, Amiibo, stationery and tons of things that you know you will want to put into your luggage.
The floor it is on is a dangerous one (for your wallet).
The 6F of the Shibuya PARCO is the anime and games floor - meaning you will also encounter the official Pokemon, Capcom, JUMP, Godzilla, and Sega stores. Since the neighbors likely have properties you’ll want to get items from as well, prepare your wallet accordingly.
What most people get wrong
Mistake #1: Going during a holiday. Sometimes travelers will go to the Nintendo store during a major release day or holiday. These are often ticketed entry days. Be prepared to either arrive early to secure a ticket then wait for entry, or be turned away.
Mistake #2: Games are not cheaper. Since this is a brand store, all products are sold at MSRP unless there is an active promotion or discount. Go here for the products you can’t get anywhere else (like the exclusive plush, stationery or other goods).
Five recommendations
Go on a weekday morning if you possibly can. No ticket, no crowd, and staff who can actually talk to you.
If it has to be a weekend, be there before opening. Tickets go out on 1F before the doors open. Arriving at opening time is already late.
Budget for the floor, not the store. Capcom, Sega and Pokémon are steps away - prepare accordingly.
Prioritise the crossover exclusives. The Nintendo TOKYO series items spanning their most popular franchises are the things that genuinely do not exist elsewhere. Buy those first and think about the rest afterwards.
Make sure you take a photo at the coin block just outside. There is a great photo spot just around the corner from the cashiers that can create a great keepsake in itself.
